December 2023 Housing Market Update
In December 2023, the real estate market experienced a decline with a 36% decrease in listings, a 32% drop in sales and a marginal 0.4% decrease in prices. This is expected for December so don’t be alarmed. Although future market conditions are unpredictable we can guess: Looking ahead to 2024, I believe prices will stay relatively stable. Unlike the massive year over year growth we’ve seen for the past 10 years. Anticipated factors such as lower interest rates and the arrival of spring may contribute to a boost in both sales and prices. While some homeowners may be compelled to sell as about 50% of mortgage holders are set to renew this year, it is not predicted to trigger a selling frenzy or a significant drop in prices. However, opportunities for favourable deals in the market are anticipated as these distressed homeowners put their homes on the market.
